The Vacuum Storage Solution You'll Want To Add To Your Laundry Room ASAP

A vacuum cleaner is a must-have item for any home, but it isn't the most aesthetically pleasing household essential. Everyone stores their vacuum differently, whether by shoving it in the kitchen corner or putting it in a cupboard under the stairs. By building a custom cupboard made to perfectly fit your vacuum, you're adding valuable space to your laundry room without taking up too much space.

If you want both easy access to the vacuum when you need it and an aesthetic look, this handy storage solution, shared by @shaydesignco on TikTok, will do just that. Ideal for a cramped laundry room or if you're sick of having your vacuum sitting around, the best thing about this upgrade is that it can be customized based on your requirements. And though it's great for a laundry room, you can also modify this hack by incorporating storage space for your vacuum wherever you need it most.

Hide away your vacuum in a convenient place

You can go about this hack any way you like. As demonstrated in the above TikTok, you can make — or hire someone to make — your very own custom vacuum cabinet. However, if a DIY cupboard isn't in your repertoire (or your budget), opt for a premade tall, slim cupboard instead. The GODMORGON cabinet from IKEA has a bright white finish for a fresh look. Though it comes with shelves, these can be removed or adjusted to fit the size of your vacuum. The addition of the shelves means you can store towels and bedding above your vacuum to save even more space.

Alternatively, the ENHET storage combination, also from IKEA, will hide your vacuum behind a door but features open shelves on the other side for display purposes. Depending on whether your vacuum is tall and slim or short and a little bulkier, you may have to customize an existing cabinet to suit your needs. As well as being functional, you want your chosen cabinet to be stylish.

Help your chosen cabinet blend in by painting it

You can fit a vacuum cabinet into your laundry room in several different ways, including where you place it. It could be placed as a standalone piece in your laundry room or slotted in between existing cabinets. If you plan to paint over your cabinet so it fits in with your decor better, always opt for a cabinet with a light base like white. Lighter colors are far easier to paint over and usually require fewer coats of paint. The same goes if you decide to DIY your cabinet — choose wood with a sanded or bleached hue to make the process smoother overall.

You can even fake the idea that all your cabinets are from the same range by using the same paint color (or as close as you can) to any existing furniture. Another good tip for making new furniture blend in is to see if it has a similar base to your current pieces. If not, consider swapping out or adding a base for a more symmetrical look. This will also make a basic cabinet feel more expensive.
