The Clever IKEA SEKTION DIY Will Maximize Storage Space Under Your Sloped Ceiling

If you have sloped ceilings, then you know how challenging it can be to maximize storage. You can add a dresser, but this often leaves you with plenty of unusable space above it. What if you could utilize an IKEA cabinet to create a customized built-in wardrobe? Thanks to an amazing DIY hack shared by Emma Courtney Home via YouTube, you can add plenty of extra cabinetry with nothing more than some creativity, IKEA SEKTION cabinets, and IKEA ENKÖPING doors. And the best part is that you won't break the bank since there's no need to purchase custom cabinetry. It's reported that custom cabinets can cost as much as $750 per linear foot, so creating your own can save you an incredible amount of money.

Since this hack makes full use of your sloped ceilings, you'll be able to hang clothes instead of folding them. You can also add as many shelves as you'd like, providing space for everything from shoes to makeup and more. You could even add a mirror, turning your wardrobe into a vanity. Just be sure to leave space for a small bench. Here's how to get stylish home storage with this DIY project

Creating your IKEA SEKTION wardrobe

To use sloped ceilings for closet storage, begin by measuring your space. This helps you determine how many IKEA SEKTION cabinets can you fit. Keep in mind that each base cabinet is 30" x 15 3/8" x 30" and is $194, so figure out your budget accordingly. Once purchased, you'll need to assemble these cabinets beneath your sloped ceilings, and depending on how much room there is, you can stack two or more on top of each other. You will probably have some small gaps around the edges, which you can easily fill with narrow strips of wood — if you choose to leave the gaps on either side of your cabinets, you won't have the same cohesive appearance. Next, install a closet rod, and arrange the shelving layout.

The best doors for this project are the IKEA ENKÖPING doors for $55 each. You can purchase them in walnut or white, depending on your home's aesthetic. You can also paint these doors to match the room's color scheme. Since they're made of fiberboard, chalk paint is an excellent option, as it adheres to various surfaces. Once complete, you'll have a wardrobe that fully maximizes the space under your sloped ceiling. Additional shelving can be added if you need more space than the IKEA SEKTION offers, while the IKEA ENKÖPING doors will conceal everything in a sleek, stylish way.
