Repurpose This Baby Furniture To Create A DIY Laundry Drying Rack

Not having a drying rack at home makes finding a place to hang your wet clothes difficult. Some folks use the door frame or the garage door opener since they're easily accessible. However, they're not the most functional if you have to open the garage door and there's clothing everywhere. Instead, DIYing a laundry drying rack with the slats from a baby crib can give you the perfect item to hang dry your clothes. Attaching the crib slat to the wall will take up minimal space in your laundry room.

Repurposing old furniture stored in your garage or storage unit allows you to reuse the item and free up room in your home instead of leaving it to collect dust. A laundry drying rack needs rungs to hold the clothes, and a baby's crib rail is the perfect thing you can use. We love this hack because it prevents you from cutting wood and making a rack from scratch. In addition, you'll need plywood and wood to make a frame around the plywood, but you'll need to measure your slat to ensure the frame will be large enough to hold it. You also need ribbons, magnets, two door hinges, hanger screws from Walmart, a drill gun, and a jigsaw. You'll love how easy drying your laundry will be once you DIY your drying rack.

Turning a baby crib into a laundry drying rack

DIYing your own laundry drying rack is straightforward. Start by sawing off the ends of the slat so that there are only rungs on either side. You can paint the wood furniture if it's old and needs an updated look. Make it a statement piece in your laundry room by painting it a bold color like blue, yellow, or green. Then, attach the door hinges to the bottom sides and glue the magnets to the middle of the top rung. Staple the ribbons less than halfway down from the magnets. If you don't have a ribbon, you can attach chains. Set your slat aside and create a frame using plywood and wood pieces.

Measure your crib slat to ensure the plywood's frame is large enough to hold it. Once your frame is made, assemble your rack by sliding the slat inside with the hinges on the bottom end and attach the hinges. Also, attach the other end of ribbons or chains to the frame and screw a couple of nails to the inside where the magnets will hit them. Finally, hang your new drying rack on your wall with the hanger screws and a piece of wire.

If you don't have a crib slat, use a wire crib mattress spring. Hang it from your ceiling by installing hooks on each corner of the spring and the ceiling, ensuring they're equally spaced, mimicking the size of the spring. Finally, hang the spring from the ceiling using chains.
