Upgrade Your Kitchen Organization With These DIY Magnetic Spice Jars
A kitchen is incomplete without spice jars, as you need them to keep all your seasonings organized. However, if you've got more jars than space in your drawer, things can quickly become messy. If this is your situation, there's an unexpected kitchen organizer hack that'll help you stick your spices onto your fridge so they're always accessible. You'll just need to buy some glass jars and attach a few neodymium magnets to the sides or the lids. While you can buy a 15-piece set of pre-made magnetic spice jars with labels from Walmart for about $40, DIYing the project could save you money and will allow you to choose the exact materials you desire.
If you're itching to organize your spices and get rid of the mess in your cooking space, try out this budget-friendly DIY magnetic spice jar hack. Start by gathering the supplies. You'll need a few glass spice jars, small neodymium magnets, sticker labels, markers, and heavy-duty double-sided tape or super glue for this hack. In case you don't have the supplies handy, you can get them at your local hardware store or online. For instance, you could buy everything from Amazon, including 50 pieces of VSKIZ Neodymium Magnets for around $5 and a 20-Pack of 4-Ounce Spice Jars with labels, a collapsible funnel, and chalk markers from CASCIARO that costs about $26. Additionally, if you want to use tape instead of glue, buy the $7 3M Auto Exterior Attachment Tape Roll as well.
How to DIY magnetic spice jars
After you've gathered the supplies, decide if you'd rather stick the lid, the side, or the bottom of the jars to your fridge — whatever you choose, it needs to be a flat surface. If you want to place the magnets under the lids, ensure the lids are a conductor (made of stainless steel or something similar). Once you've made the decision, grab a few magnets. The number you should use for each jar depends on the size and strength of the magnets and the size and weight of the jar. For instance, if you have a 4-ounce jar and very small magnets, you'll want to use at least three to four of them to ensure the jars don't fall off your fridge.
Next, grab the double-sided tape and cut a few small pieces before sticking them onto the jar or lid in a triangle or square formation. Ensure you stick one piece of tape per magnet. Remove the film from the tape and press the magnets into them (you may also need to heat up the tape/magnets when attaching with a hair dryer, or use super glue instead). Finally, simply pour the spices into them, label the jars, and put them on your fridge door or sides in a neat pattern like a honeycomb, inverted triangle, or linear rows. Additionally, instead of the fridge, you could get a steel sheet and stick the jars there or use another stainless steel appliance.
