Easily Upgrade Your Kitchen Cabinet Hardware With This Genius Painter's Tape Hack

Did you know that new kitchen cabinets can cost as much as $13,000? If you're looking to give your cupboards a facelift without the hefty price tag, you can do so by replacing their existing hardware with some upgraded equipment. However, your new pull handles might require two perfectly placed drill holes, and you'll need complete accuracy before puncturing your cabinetry. Thanks to an amazing TikTok hack, you can expertly install new handles with nothing more than painter's tape, a Sharpie marker, and a new set of hardware.

There are tons of reasons why you'd need to defer to this helpful hack. For starters, a lot of cabinets have a single knob. If you opt for sleek hardware that requires a second hole, you'll need a way of expertly measuring. You might also have brand-new cupboards that require handle installation. If you're replacing existing knobs and opt to install your new hardware elsewhere on your cabinet doors, you'll also need to seal the existing holes before doing so. You can easily do this with some wood filler. For painted surfaces, wood filler is preferable to wood putty. Simply apply a layer, let it dry, sand it smooth, and paint the face of your cabinets. Once they're dry, you can implement this neat TikTok drill hole hack to install new cabinet hardware, compliments of painter's tape and creativity.

Grab painter's tape and a Sharpie

Begin by purchasing your painter's tape. You can buy it on Amazon for less than $5 a roll, at the time of writing. You'll also need a Sharpie, but if you don't have one, any kind of marker will do. If you don't have the right kind of painter's tape but have masking tape handy, you can use this, too. Although duct tape might seem like a viable swap, its adhesive backing might be too strong for your cabinets. You don't want to risk ruining the finish, so it's best to work with tapes that use a lighter glue.

Next, place a piece of painter's tape on the back of your handles, screw-side up. Use your Sharpie to trace each hole, puncturing the tape. Once you've done this, attach your painter's tape to your cabinets, directly where you wish to install your new hardware. The goal is to use the tape as a template for your drill holes. Mark where you want to drill, removing your painter's tape. You'll then want to use a power drill to bore holes into your cupboards. According to TikTok user @hannahvaldovinos, you should use a drill bit that matches the size of any existing holes. Simply attach your new handles and you've got refurbished cabinets with perfectly placed handles!
