The DIY Framed Cinnamon Art That Will Leave Your House Smelling Amazing

When you think of familiar scents and comforting smells, you may imagine cinnamon. While you might be used to enjoying the sweet and spicey aroma when it comes from a delicious drink or tempting dessert, you might not realize that there are plenty of unexpected uses for cinnamon around your home. That includes creating an adorable and unusual piece of wall art.

Although that might be surprising, people have been figuring out ways to use cinnamon since ancient Egypt and perhaps even earlier. Along with tasting yummy, it also smells just as good, which is why it's even used for aromatherapy. Thanks to a compound known as cinnamic acid (as well as cinnamic aldehyde or cinnamaldehyde), the aroma is thought to be relaxing and comforting. In fact, it might even be able to help boost your mood while making you feel warm and cozy inside. On top of that, cinnamon can be purchased in rolled sticks that are ridiculously cute. That's why they can be used to create a piece of wall art that not only looks good but will also fill your home with the soothing scent of cinnamon.

Turn cinnamon sticks into wall art in a few quick steps

If you're intrigued by the idea of turning cinnamon into fragrant wall art, then you may want to follow a few quick steps that can be seen in a video shared on TikTok by social media user Summer Hammons (@hammonsnest). Starting with a piece of canvas stretched over a wooden frame, she separates the former from the latter. She then covers the wood section with glue before dusting it with cinnamon and brushing on more glue to leave it with a darker, almost aged look.

Hammons then takes a piece of an old-looking music sheet collage, which she's cut into the same shape and size as the wooden frame. Gluing the music sheet onto a backing, she attaches it to the back of the frame with a glue gun. Next comes the cinnamon sticks, along with a small piece of a tree stick. She first places the piece of the stick at the bottom of the inside of the wooden frame, which acts as a stump for the tree that she then makes out of the cinnamon. Cutting them into various sizes, she layers them while gluing each onto the piece. She then adds a few more touches, like hints of gold on the frame, some snowy white on the tree, and a golden star to top it off. In the end, she's left with a fabulously fragrant piece ready to be hung up.

Add twinkle lights to your aromatic cinnamon wall art

One of the fun parts of this project is that you can change it up in seemingly endless ways. For instance, you might want to add twinkle lights, just like TikTok user @crazylifewithlittles. After painting a piece of canvas, she then drills a hole in the bottom. This is where she's able to feed a string of lights through the canvas. Then, as she glues the cinnamon sticks down in the shape of a tree, she wraps and weaves the lights around them. She also adds spaces between the sticks and glues them down in pairs, which also makes her piece a little different. When the lights are turned on, the piece transforms from delightful to magical.

Of course, you can take it even further by adding your own unique touches. That might include using slices of dried oranges or lemons to add accents as well as another lovely aroma to the piece. You could also include pine needles, berries, and other natural accessories. On top of that, you could use glitter on the cinnamon sticks or background to make them shine or paint a scene on the canvas before creating a tree. You can even set up an entire mini forest of cinnamon stick trees for your fragrant wall art. Let your imagination run wild, and you'll surely love the result!
