Why You Should Be Throwing Hair Curlers Into Your Washing Machine

For pet owners, getting all the fur off your clothes when doing laundry can seem like an impossible task. Dog and cat hair clings to everything, and many times clothes will come out of the washer or dryer still covered in fur. However, if you use curlers to style your hair, you may be in luck. Throwing a hair curler into the washing machine will help pick up and remove the loose fur from your clothes or linens. While not all curlers will be able to clean up after your pet, the variety made with velcro will trap pet hair in its tiny hooks until your wash cycle has finished. Because of the strength of velcro, and its ability to stick to most fabrics, you may want to avoid this hack when washing delicate clothing, such as lace, fur, or frayed material that could be damaged by velcro rollers. 

While hair curlers could help get a lot of the fur off your laundry, they likely won't remove all of it. For the best results, try getting rid of some of the hair with a lint roller or tape before putting it in your washer. Additionally, putting your clothes in the dryer for a few minutes before washing can help remove pet hair. To keep your clothes pet hair-free, you'll have to clean your washing machine to keep it free of fur as well.

Before putting your hair curler in the washing machine, remove any human hair from the roller first. If the curler is already full of hair, it might have a more difficult time picking up pet fur from your laundry. Once the wash cycle has finished, remove your roller, pull out the pet hair, and throw it away. This can be done every time you wash a load of laundry to help curb the amount of pet hair on your sheets and clothes.

After your laundry comes out of the wash, try using a cloth to wipe your washer down and gather any fur that may still be inside the machine. You can also clean your washing machine and cut down on hair by running a rinse cycle while the washer is empty. By keeping your washer clean and throwing a velcro hair roller into your laundry, you'll be able to remove a lot of the pet hair from your clothes without having to buy expensive products.
