The TikTok Hack That'll Hide Your Curtain Rack's Hardware

Curtains are a great way to elevate your home interior, but when you don't style them correctly, they can end up looking, well, a little off. Your curtains serve as a framing device for the room, and even small issues can disrupt the general feel of the space. One detail that has a major impact on your curtains' appearance is whether the hardware is exposed. If your curtain rod is mounted to the wall, there's a good chance there's some slightly clunky-looking hardware sticking out, particularly the bracket on which the pole sits. Having so much curtain rod exposed will make your curtains — and by extension, the entire room — feel smaller. Fortunately, there's an easy fix for this. As shared by TikTok creator @tipsandtrickswithq, you can easily conceal distracting curtain rack hardware by having the first curtain eyelet placed before the wall-mounting point. This nifty trick is meant specifically for people with eyelet-style curtain hangings, where there are individual holes in the curtain fabric through which the curtain rod is fed. By moving the outer eyelets to the very ends of the rod, the fabric will fully cover the hardware, and you will get a wider spread for your curtain, creating a much more stylish and seamless look.

Although this home design tip is less of a hack and more of a common sense interior design rule, many folks don't have access to professional designers and aren't aware of how much of a difference these tweaks can make.

Styling an eyelet curtain

Properly styling your curtains can make all the difference. Aside from the basics, like how long the curtains should be and how high on the wall they need to be mounted, you also need to be mindful of how you arrange the fabric along the curtain rod. If you have eyelet curtains, getting the right look for your curtains can require some very precise positioning. When the eyelets are too close, the fabric becomes bunched up, and you won't have the elegant, cascading effect that makes curtains look so fancy. Placing the outermost eyelets before the rod brackets gives you a good starting point for arranging curtains — when the fabric is entirely inside the brackets, you risk having a cramped, rumpled appearance.

Keeping the fabric spread out not only opens up your space but ensures that your curtains will have neater pleats and folds. If you're really having trouble getting that perfect evenly-spaced look for your curtains, you can actually use a pool noodle hack for neat curtain pleats. Put small pool noodle pieces under the fabric, between the eyelets, to serve as spacers for the curtain. You can also do this trick with an empty paper towel roll, depending on the thickness of your curtain rod. Finally, to go the extra mile when caring for your eyelet curtains, you can use a handheld steamer to style and crease the pleats along the eyelets for a truly perfect curtain aesthetic.
