Prevent Your Headboard From Harming Your Wall With An Easy Pool Noodle Hack
There are few sounds in the world more dreadful than the sudden thud of furniture smacking into drywall. An insecure or unbalanced headboard can easily scuff the surface, chip the paint, or punch a hole in your wall behind it. It's incredibly annoying when the headboard smacks the wall every time you shift in your sleep (not to mention during more vigorous activities). Even if your bed seems stable for now, bolts in the frame can loosen with heavy use over time or even with temperature changes. Luckily, the solution may already be in your garage, as a pool noodle is all you need to prevent your headboard from damaging the wall. You'll simply attach the foam material to the backside of the headboard to keep it from hitting the wall.
Recognizing shaky headboards as a universal problem, a humorous video shared on TikTok showed a young person standing in her parent's bedroom. "My parents put pool noodles behind the headboard because it 'hits the wall'," the video was captioned. As silly as the TikTok video might be, the parents' idea is actually quite brilliant for any bed that tends to rock on its hinges and smack into the wall behind it. By using two sections of pool noodles inserted behind the headboard, they created a cheap and noise-free bed bumper.
Pool noodle bumpers provide peace, quiet, and privacy
To stop your headboard from smacking into the wall, all you'll need is an ordinary pool noodle and something to cut it with like a utility knife or a serrated kitchen knife. Carefully cut two sections out of the pool noodle. These could be as short or as long as you need, but a longer piece may provide more secure protection. Next, use the knife to cut the segments lengthwise, giving them the ability to open up and wrap around the top edge of the headboard. This technique will work best for metal or wooden headboards, but you can still use the pool noodle hack on an upholstered fabric headboard with a few minor changes. Instead of wrapping the noodle around the edge, you'll need to shove it between the headboard and the wall and possibly secure it with tape.
This hack is brilliant, as it's super easy to cut the noodle down to size and modify the thickness as needed. If you're worried about the pool noodle color looking bright or distracting, you can wrap the segment in a pillowcase, an old T-shirt, or any fabric that closely matches your bedroom wall. The noodle trick is perfect for beds that tend to rock, shake, or bump into the wall. However, it can also work wonders behind nightstands, dressers, TV consoles, and more to keep them from being shoved back and smashing a plug in an outlet behind them.
