How To Transform Your Moving Box And Make It Longer With This Simple Hack

No matter how you slice it, moving is always a lesson in patience but it can also be a learning experience in flexibility. Even when you've done everything to get fully organized before moving, missteps will happen, and one common issue is realizing you need a different-sized box than the one you have. Fortunately, there's an Instagram hack that shows how a box that is a little too short is transformed like magic into a longer box just by making a few quick cuts on the flaps.

When moving, you have to pack up everything you own and transport it without breaking, but it can be tough to plan ahead and think about how many boxes, bags, and containers you'll need to use. This is often a guesstimate at best. After all, accounting for how much stuff you actually have combined with how it should all precisely be packed is a skill that must be learned.

It's always beneficial to employ items you are already bringing and use them for their storage capacities. With long items like brooms and mops, you can sometimes just toss them in a tall kitchen garbage can, then just tape them together so they stay put. For belongings that must go in boxes but are too tall for the boxes you have, a little ingenuity can help get the job done.

Cut box flaps to make it longer

To begin, make sure all flaps are separated, then draw a line in the middle of the short flaps on the side of the box. Make the line go from the edge down to the fold. Then flip the box over and do the same thing on the opposite side of the box. Next, carefully cut all the lines until you reach the fold. Then take the two small flaps that were cut in half and pull them together so they fall on top of the other. This will immediately cause the box to lengthen and thin out. Tape down the new sides as you go.

This hack will come in handy when you stumble upon items that are longer than you might have originally thought. It both elongates the length and reduces the width of the box. It can help lengthen boxes to fit items such as wrapping paper, small curtain rods, or large frames.
