Get Centipedes Out Of Your Kitchen Sink With One Product From Your Pantry

Having any sort of critter in your home is a common, if horrid, problem, but this trick to get rid of centipedes means you can hold off on the bug spray. Rather than heading to the hardware store, reach for white vinegar to say goodbye to these many-legged creatures. There are two ways to get rid of centipedes using vinegar: pouring it down the drain, or spraying it directly at the unwelcome tenants, both of which will solve a potential infestation.

While centipedes aren't necessarily dangerous (although their bite can hurt), they could still pose a minor threat to pets and small children who don't understand not to touch them. As well as being spotted near drains, centipedes often appear in homes during cold weather for sheltering purposes and to lay their eggs, which is why it's so important to take action when you spot signs such as stray legs. If left to roam freely, they will quickly become a hoard that's more difficult to control.

You can either kill or deter centipedes using vinegar

Not just a versatile cleaning tool, vinegar can deter centipedes from wanting to enter your home via the kitchen sink. The first method involves putting some white vinegar in a spray bottle and spritizing it directly at the centipedes. Note that this will kill them, so be prepared to clean up some dead bugs after your spraying session. If you don't want to kill the creatures but rather deter them, try the following method instead. Rather than directing vinegar at the bugs, this hack focuses on clearing out your drain.

Pour a half cup of vinegar straight down the drain. Let it sit for around 60 minutes, then pour a second half-cup measurement. This will stop the centipedes in their tracks before they even come into your house. It's important to remember to wait a few days before cleaning your drain with anything else after pouring the vinegar, especially bleach. Bleach and vinegar make chlorine gas when combined, which can cause health issues like chest pain, dizziness, and coughing, amongst other side effects, per StatPearls.
