The Easy Wine Cork Hack That Will Save Your Walls From Slamming Doors

If you're a homeowner, then you already know just how important it is to have door stoppers behind every door in the house. The force at which you throw open your door can leave the wall behind it scarred, dented, and damaged, resulting in hundreds of dollars in repair costs (not to mention the unattractiveness that comes with your wall looking like a battlefield at the end of the day). Fortunately, you can create your own DIY door stoppers that will cushion the blow of constantly slamming doors using a wine cork. You'll also need a plastic bottle cap, some glue from a hot glue gun, and a piece of strong (wall-friendly!) tape.

Wine corks are typically made of tree bark, although some can be artificially produced. Regardless, they all have a similar texture and the ability to act as a buffer between your wall and door without hurting the door. This makes it a perfect candidate to act as a door stopper, which you can quickly put together.

No door stoppers? No problem — creating some is a handy way to repurpose old wine corks. TikTok content creator @riggs_651 demonstrates how to turn a cork and bottle cap into a door stopper. First, line the bottom of the bottle cap with enough glue and push the cork down into it until it's secure. Let this dry. Then, cut the self-adhesive tape into a circle with the same circumference as the bottle cap and attach it to the bottom. Finally, measure the exact area where the door comes in contact with the wall and stick the bottle cap door stopper there.

If you didn't use a strong enough adhesive on your makeshift door stopper, then it stands the risk of falling off after much use. Be sure to use an adhesive that can stand the test of time before you get your forever door stopper installed. But now you have a makeshift one for the meantime — and you don't have to worry about damaging your wall.
