Grab Your Mop For This Easy Window Blind Cleaning Hack

You might wash your floors weekly, but almost no one does the same to their blinds. Shades are one of those things that you end up cleaning once every couple of months, if you're lucky. And that's because they're such a pain to do. Most of us were taught that you need to painstakingly go over each slat with a microfiber cloth or vacuum attachment, but that just takes up too much time. Because of that, most of us skip the task until the blinds get noticeably grimy. However, you can make the chore so much easier — and faster — with the help of a mop.

This is a great cleaning hack to try because everyone has a mop in their cleaning cupboard, negating the need to buy a fancy new duster that's specially built for blinds. If you're trying to avoid an avalanche of cleaning tools from accumulating, this is definitely worth a try. Not only will it save you money, but it will also save you time during chore day. Curious? Here's how to do it!

How to use a mop to clean blinds

First thing is first: No, you won't be using the same mop you use to scrub your dirty floors to clean your blinds. Instead, you want to dedicate a mop head solely to cleaning blinds, cabinets, walls, and so on. Basically, anything that doesn't get overly grimy. That way, you're not accidentally cross-contaminating dirt to cleaner parts of the house. To pull off this hack, all you will need is a spin mop and a spray soap such as Gain Power Blast or Dawn Platinum Powerwash Spray. You want to use a spin mop in particular because it allows you to control the dampness level of the mop head. You don't want the tool to be sopping wet, or else you might damage the blinds or create wet puddles on the ledges and floors.

Once you have your tools, add 7 pumps of soap to 2 gallons of hot water. Close your blinds so they are laying flat, and use the mop head to go over them like you would with a rag. Go back and forth and up and down to get all of the nooks. You can then flip the blinds the other way so you get their backside, and repeat the same process. Open the blinds and allow them to dry. And that's it! It should take half the time and much less effort. It's one of the easiest ways to clean your blinds.
