TikTok Has A Quick Fix For Keeping Rugs In Place On Carpeted Floors

According to Statista, roughly 79% of us are proud owners of an area rug, which is quite a substantial figure. However, if you have an area rug on a carpeted floor, you may find yourself frustrated as it moves around and bunches. Just what will it take to stop it wiggling around your room? Thankfully, one TikTok hack by @sbkliving has a surprisingly simple solution for the problem: screws. Yes, screws. Although we typically think of putting screws into walls or furniture, you can also use them on your floor and your rugs. By screwing down your rug into your carpet, you should be able to stop any pesky movement right in its tracks. It's really that simple. Like this, you should be able to make the most of your area rug.

Not only is this hack convenient and uses items you likely already have on hand, but it's perfect if you often find yourself tripping over or pulling your rug flat all the time. As a result, you should have one less thing to worry about in your bedroom or living room. Plus, contrary to what you may think, it actually doesn't damage the carpet, nor are the screws visible in the rug. So, how exactly do you nail your area rug into your carpeted floor? Thankfully, it shouldn't take too long.

Grab some screws and a handheld drill

This hack only requires two items: some screws (realistically just one for each corner) and a handheld drill. Now, simply adjust your rug in the correct position and grab your screws. Make sure you get the correct screw size depending on the thickness of your rug and carpet. Working from corner to corner, all you need to do is drill one screw into each corner, ensuring that it goes into your rug, through your carpet, and into the subfloor. It should be straight as it goes in so that the screw head is flush with the rug. If you don't drill it all the way in, you could end up stubbing your toes or damaging your floorboard. As a result, you should now have a rug that sits in the correct position without moving.

The reason this hack works so well is because the nails help to hold it in place, connecting all three layers together so that your rug can't move. This is a great way to make your rug non-slip. However, you will of course end up with a very tiny hole in both your carpet and rug, although they will likely not be visible if you end up removing the screws. That being said, there is always the possibility of an error occurring, so proceed at your own risk. You also need to ensure that the screws are tight and not loose; otherwise, you could end up hurting yourself.
