Create A Spooky Skeleton Halloween Decoration With This Affordable TikTok Hack

The season of Halloween is nearly upon us, which means that ghosts, ghouls, and spooky inhabitants will soon be filling homes, yards, and front porches in honor of the holiday. While retailers are full of cool options for Halloween decor, you might be looking for unique and budget-friendly DIY options for decorating your front stoop this fall. TikToker Charlee, @buildandcreatehome, recently showed off the simple and low-cost caged skeleton she created from laundry baskets and a plastic 3-foot skeleton. It is as easy to put together as it is fun to decorate with.

Most of the supplies, including two laundry baskets, a plastic skeleton, spray paint, shower curtain hooks, and a length of chain, can be purchased at a dollar store for well under $20 altogether. It also makes this a great DIY for adding to existing decor (such as Charlee's graveyard recreation) or hanging it on its own from a front porch, tree, or archway. It's also a great idea for creating a little horror inside your home

Creating the caged skeleton

Begin by spray painting your baskets, hooks, and chain black — or your desired shade. Place your skeleton inside the baskets, and secure them with three or four shower curtain loops. Attach the chain to the top of the basket cage and hang it. Charlee uses a 3-foot skeleton, which tucks nicely into the standard-size laundry baskets, but you could also purchase larger baskets and a larger skeleton to create an even bigger cage.

Because this Halloween DIY project is budget-friendly, you can also create a grouping of several caged skeletons to hang from the trees in your yard. For a little more of an eerie feel, choose a glow-in-the-dark skeleton or add battery-operated fairy lights wound through the baskets for a spooky glow. You can also add other elements to the inside and outside of the cage, like fall foliage, flowers, animal skeletons, cobwebbing, LED pillars, or votive candles to match your personal decorating aesthetic.
