How To DIY An LED Corner Light While Working On A Budget

Instagram creator Kendra Davis (@my_home_by_kendra_nicole) has a simple DIY lighting project for those looking for décor on a budget. Using just a wooden base, a vertical post, some spray paint, brackets, and a strip of LED lights, Davis was able to fashion a stylish, modern LED lamp to illuminate a corner of her home. The key to this DIY is the LED strip light, which gives off a diffused ambient glow, a lighting effect that would be difficult to achieve with incandescent lighting or even a string of socketed lights.

Also, the lights are remote-controlled, so, depending on your mood, you can change the color displayed in a corner of your home with just a click. Further, because of its clean and simple design, this LED corner light would be at home almost anywhere — from the showroom-y minimalism of Davis' very grown-up living room to the corner of a gamer teen's messy bedroom. And, for about $35, you, too, could try DIY-ing this corner light for your own home and choice of décor.

Turning LED lights into stylish, budget décor

There's not a lot to Instagrammer Kendra Davis' LED corner lamp in terms of materials. It's basically made of three pieces and some fasteners. The base of the DIY light appears made of wood or MDF, which you can find at retailers like Lowe's or Walmart for around $10, while the vertical post looks to be a 1-inch by 2-inch piece of trim board (8 feet in length), like this one The Home Depot (under $8).

Metal corner braces (under $5, also from The Home Depot), meanwhile, join the pieces, and then the entire lamp is painted with Rust-Oleum enamel spray paint in flat black (around $7, from Amazon). The LED light strip itself is a 6.5-foot Monster RGB+W strip with remote, available for under $5 at Walmart.

Altogether, the cost of this budget DIY is around $35, but less if you have some of the supplies already on hand, like, for instance, the spray paint or a piece of wood or MDF you can use for the base. You could probably drop the budget even further by stripping the workings from an old floor lamp.
