Get Your Duvet Looking Extra Crispy Clean With These Tips

Since the bed is the bedroom's focal point, the duvet also makes quite the statement. There is a big difference between when you walk into a room with a flat, dingy duvet and when you walk into a bedroom with a crisp, luxurious cover. Most people would prefer to slip into the latter, though not everyone knows how to achieve it. Getting your duvet cover to look and smell crisp can be difficult, especially if you're not a wiz with laundry. However, what if we told you it's not how you wash the duvet, but how you prepare it afterward? If you want it to make a polished statement in your bedroom, then you need to iron and scent it after you haul it out of the washing machine. And luckily, it's not as difficult as it seems.

Ironing your cover might seem like a monumental task, but according to Martha Stewart's Instagram, it's worth the extra time and care. And luckily, it shouldn't take too long. If you're ready to take your bedding to the next level and make it look and smell crisp and clean, here's how to do it.

How to make your bedding look extra clean

While your bedding can technically be clean and straight from the wash, that doesn't mean it's guaranteed to look clean. Wrinkled duvets give off a rumpled, lived-in vibe, which isn't exactly crisp and clean. If you want to elevate its appearance, then it's time to whip out the iron and ironing board. According to Martha Stewart's Instagram, since many duvets have some sort of embroidery, quilting, or raised decor, you want to put a towel on your ironing board to level those details. Flip the bedding inside out so you iron the side without the decor, protecting the detail work. If your cover doesn't have such details, you can skip this part.

Before you grab the iron, there is one more step to do to make the bedding feel extra-luxurious. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil to a spray bottle filled with warm water, and shake it to mix it thoroughly. Spray it onto the duvet cover, misting it until it's damp. Not only will this make the duvet easier to iron, but it will also infuse it with a welcoming smell. The essential oil scent will linger longer than the smell of detergent, making it feel cleaner for longer. Once that's done, grab the iron and smooth out any wrinkles. Lay it flat on a drying rack until it cools, and then transfer it to your bed. You'll have a statement-making bed in a few minutes flat.
