Get Wine Stains Out Of Your Mattress With A Few Household Essentials

There's only one thing that's better than breakfast in bed. And that would be wine in bed. Trust us, it's a thing. Nothing quite hits the spot like having your night cheese with a nice red while cozy under the covers. But dosing off too soon could be fatal to your mattress if you don't know this stain hack. All you need is a few household essentials to erase that evening flub.

All you need to get rid of that unsightly stain is some hydrogen peroxide and liquid dish soap or baking soda and water. Whatever method you choose, you'll have to act quickly. Spilling wine on your mattress is basically like spilling dye on your mattress. So, the longer the wine sits on your fabric, the deeper the stain will set. While a fresh stain is easier to remove, these methods will still work on stains that have dried up.

Hydrogen peroxide and liquid dish soap method

For the hydrogen peroxide and liquid dish soap method, you need 3% hydrogen peroxide and a good quality liquid dish soap. Hydrogen peroxide will work to destabilize the staining pigmentation in the wine, while the soap will serve to lift the stain from the fabric.

Take three parts of hydrogen peroxide and mix it with one part of liquid dish soap. Pour into a spray bottle and give it a slight shake to make sure everything is all mixed together. This should create a thickened liquid solution.

Spray your stain generously. Let the solution remain on your stain for about a half hour. Moisten a cloth with cold water and dab at the stain. It's crucial that you blot the stain and not apply too much pressure or wipe it to avoid spreading the stain. Keep doing this until the stain is completely gone.

Baking soda and vinegar method

The second stain-removing method requires white distilled vinegar and baking soda. Wine, which has a level 3 pH, will be dissolved by the vinegar, which is more acidic since it has a lower pH of 2. The baking soda will serve to pull up the stain.

You'll start by pressing down on the stain firmly on the stain with a dry cloth to soak up as much of the wine as you can. Then, pour a little vinegar on the cloth and dab at the stain with it. Take a clean cloth and use that to tamp down on the stain to soak up any heavy liquid. Now, you'll sprinkle your baking soda over the affected area.

Pour more vinegar over the same area and let it effervesce. Use another clean cloth to blot at the stain until it comes up completely. Repeat if necessary.
