Get The Look Of Chic Wallpaper For Less With TikTok's Brilliant Paint Trick

Wallpaper is a trendy way to make a statement in any room. However, it can get pretty expensive, especially if you're trying to cover a large wall. If you're looking to add some flair to your space, you may not need to order any at all, thanks to one paint hack from user @greybirchdesigns on TikTok. With one shade of paint in two separate finishes, you can recreate a stunning wallpaper pattern of your own. While the TikTok shows how to make a vertically-striped pattern, you could customize the look to any geometric shapes you desire.

As a result, you will end up with an exceptionally-stylish space. The best part? Nobody should be able to tell that it's paint from afar. If you don't want to splurge on expensive products, then this is the perfect option for you. Like any other stylish DIY hack, it will take effort on your behalf. However, the results will very likely pay off once you finish creating magic on your walls. To begin this hack, head to the home improvement store to pick up your necessary items, which include paint, paintbrushes and rollers, drop cloths, painter's tape, a tape measure, and a laser level.

For this hack, you'll need one shade of paint but two different gallons, one in a high gloss finish and another in an eggshell finish. To begin, paint your entire wall with the eggshell paint and allow it to dry. If necessary, you should go in with a coat of primer before applying this paint. Now, you need to wait at least 16 hours for it to dry before going in with your tape to create vertical lines. Use your level to ensure that these are perfectly straight and your tape measure to make sure they're evenly spaced. You'll fill in each opposite one with your glossy paint. Because you only want to paint the alternating stripes, you could mark them with a pencil or a small piece of tape so that you don't make any mistakes. Once the stripes are almost completely dry, remove the tape. You should take care when doing so, as you don't want to damage your work of art.

This hack works so well because it gives the illusion of wallpaper rather than looking like paint. Of course, you also have the creative freedom to choose your paint colors — they don't necessarily have to be the same shade, as you could use two or more separate colors. You could also use the painter's tape to create another pattern if desired, perhaps one with diamonds or checkered squares.
