This Electrical Tape Hack May Help You Sleep Through The Night
Don't even get us started on the miserable and hard-to-kick habit of searing our brains with internet scrolling as a prelude to sleep. It makes no sense, and we know that blue light, particularly from smartphones, laptops, and desktop computers, is great at keeping us in a state of wakefulness. But even as we wean ourselves off our devices to get a reasonable amount of sleep, we can't help but notice other little rest disruptors in the dark. These itty-bitty utility lights dotting the room may be what keeps us from getting a good night's rest. Thankfully, though, there's a simple way to block them: electrical tape.
Although electrical tape comes in many colors, black is common and should be perfect for this job. It's relatively thin and the opacity of the tape is exactly what you need to silence those unrelenting dots of light letting you know the printer is on, the fan is on, the dehumidifier is on, the white noise machine is on, the space heater, etc.
Use electrical tape to black out lights
Unless you power down your Wi-Fi every night and unplug the entire household, the wee lights from your various electronic devices, like your TV, laptop, and speakers, will blaze on in the darkness, and possibly be the reason why you can't get to sleep. To rid your room of these persistent lights, this home hack is beyond simple: Just tape over the lights with a bit of black electrical tape. Given how small these green, red, blue, and yellow dots are, a 1-inch piece of tape could probably cover any and all "on" lights you have in your room.
In addition to creating a pitch-black atmosphere to help you sleep, you could also use sleeping aids, such as an eye mask or sound-blocking earbuds. You could also add blackout window treatments. In fact, Nate Berkus includes blackout curtains in his list of bedroom essentials for a restful night.
