TikToker Shares A Decorating Hack For A Fresh-Smelling Home

We love finding unusual, secondary uses for household staples. Who knew you could use simple, unscented decor pieces to create a fresh-smelling home? Well, it turns out, there are a couple ways to do this. For one thing, you could make your home smell like cinnamon by turning on the lights with an easy, unexpected trick. But we found a different and more subtle hack from a TikToker. Sort of by accident, she figured out that putting her fake flowers into baking soda created a noticeably more crisp-smelling environment.

As a form of decor, the quality these days of fake flowers or faux branches, berries, and leaves is next-level. They can elevate your living room to a chic dinner party vibe, they don't need water, and the leaves won't crunch up and fall off like actual autumn leaves. When this TikToker put them in her transparent vases, she thought that they needed something extra visually and added the baking soda. That's when she discovered how this ingredient can freshen your home with little effort.

The faux branch and baking soda hack

All you need for this hack are simply fake blooms or branches, your favorite vases whether they're transparent or not, and a container of baking soda. To begin, pour a few inches of baking soda into the bottom of each vase, then arrange your flowers or branches the way you like them. If you want to add a specific scent, try including a few drops of essential oil in the powder as well. Finally, place your vases out as decorations in any room of your home.

Here's why this works to create a fresh smell in your space. Baking soda, unlike commercial air fresheners that you plug in or hang from your rearview mirror, doesn't just cover up smells. Instead, it neutralizes and eliminates them. Imagine dotting your living room with even two or three vases of secretly-deodorizing tree branch displays. You'll be nipping wafting kitchen odors (or anything else that smells bad) in the bud. This isn't the only magic hack available from the near-miraculous powers of sodium bicarbonate, as there are 25 other baking soda cleaning hacks that you should know about.
