Create Faux Pampas Grass On A Budget With This Easy Hack

Pampas grass has become a commonly-used earthy decor item. The feathery bunches add a natural and romantic touch to a number of styles including glamorous, Scandinavian, and bohemian decor. You can often find bunches in an array of shades tucked into sizable vases and vessels. While the presence of pampas grass is a popular trend, filling an entire vase with dried stems might get costly, particularly if you are looking for a fuller arrangement. Fortunately, Youtuber Xo, Alex Blooms DIY recently showed off an easy DIY project using dollar store supplies that may be a perfect solution to creating a full bunch of artificial pampas grass for your interior.

All you will need to create your faux pampas grass is a package of wooden skewers, yarn, a fine-toothed comb, and a few crafting essentials like scissors, a glue gun, and a piece of heavy paper or cardstock. The yarn will form the fringe of your faux pampas grass, so choose your colors wisely. These can range from the more naturalistic neutrals and pastels to the more daring and deeper colors of dyed pampas available in craft and home stores.

Creating faux pampas grass from yarn

To create your pampas grass arrangement, begin by wrapping the yarn tightly in a spiral down the full length of your wooden skewer. Secure the ends with a dab of hot glue. Create the fringe that will be your feathery parts by wrapping a length of yarn several times around a small piece of heavy paper or cardstock to cut multiple pieces at an even length. Once you have your small pieces of fringe cut down to size, take several strands and begin applying them horizontally in bunches with hot glue down the length of the stem.

Once you have applied your fringe and the glue has dried, use the comb to brush the yarn upwards. This will also help fray the fibers and give it the wispy, feathery look of the real thing. You can use just one color of yarn for the entire length or add different colors to create more dimension. After you have made your batch of faux pampas, place the stems together in a large vase to create a stunning accent piece.
