David Bromstad's Genius Tip Will Save You Big Bucks On Seasonal Decorations

It can be exciting to change up your home décor seasonally, whether you love adding bunnies for Easter or leaves for fall. However, the cost of changing up your home to fit the seasons can add up very quickly, leaving you with a well-decorated room but not much money left in the bank. Luckily, HGTV star David Bromstad revealed to OK! Magazine how you can pull a room together from season to season without needing to take out a loan to achieve it — and it's much easier than you'd think.

"All you need is a few hundred bucks, make your way over to Target, buy some pillows, some matching accessories and some art. Sprinkle those around your room and you're already going to have a pulled together room. You can do that from season to season or month to month. It's not going to cost you a bunch," Bromstad shared. Though Bromstad specifically mentions Target, you can go to any store that sells seasonal home goods and follow the same tips.

Small accessories like pillows can make a big difference

David Bromstad also told OK! that pillows go a long way when it comes to designing a room. "I'm obsessed with pillows. I probably have about 200 pillows and I'm not even joking. I have so many in storage. I probably have 50 on my couch alone—I have a giant couch. But it's just fun to mix and match. A pillow is something you can have for a long time and get a lot of use out of it," he revealed.

Pillows are indeed a great way to switch up the look of a room without needing to spend a lot. Certain colors are associated with certain seasons. For example, pastel pillows in hues of blue, coral, and soft beige are perfect for summer, whereas burnt red, orange, and golden pillows are practically made for fall. In winter, you'll probably want to stick to moodier hues and rich colors like burgundy, whereas spring is time for the color of blooming flowers — lemon yellow, crisp white, etc. As these colors will always be associated with their respective seasons, you won't have to worry about your pillows going out of style and can reuse them year after year.

Make an impact by choosing items that are easy to swap out but obviously seasonal

As David Bromstad shared, matching artwork, pillows, and other matching accessories are what will bring a room together. You can find design inspiration in almost anything. Seasonal décor doesn't have to be over the top, with huge leaf wreaths for fall and beach décor in summer (although if that's your style, go for it!). Changing your house décor from summer to fall can be as simple as changing a beige rug to a deep rust one. You can also get more extravagant for your favorite season if you have one. Bromstad loves Christmas and always goes all out with large trees, ornaments, and other festive fancies. In this case, you're supplementing the basic formula of switching out cushions and other matching pieces.

Decorating your home for the seasons doesn't need to be over the top. The next time you go to buy a bunch of seasonal decorations that won't get used again, consider stealing Bromstad's idea of simply swapping out pillows and accessories for winter, spring, summer, and fall to save yourself some money.
