Have you ever picked up a grocery store bouquet and brought it home, only to leave it limply in your favorite vase, completely uninspired? Us, too. We can never seem to nail the perfect flower arrangement on our own.

Flower arranging is an art unto itself, with an entire industry devoted to it, so it's no surprise the average person would have trouble artfully arranging flower stems — it's hard! Keeping things in mind like height, color combination, and textures is one thing; then the actual tools of the trade and the ability to get the flowers to look right in the vase is entirely another. That is, until this nifty TikTok hack we just came across, which solves this floral-arrangement problem perfectly.

Thanks to TikToker @fivefootfeminine, the solution to standing your flower bouquet stems straight and beautifully comes down to repurposing a common grocery store item you probably have in your home right now: a mesh produce bag.

Arranging flowers with a mesh bag

This flower-arranging hack is so simple, you'll wonder how you never thought of it before. All you need is a leftover mesh produce bag, some tape, and your favorite flower vase to get started.

In her TikTok video, @fivefootfeminine empties a mesh produce bag of its contents (in this case, it was holding clementines, but we've seen these bags used for onions, apples, and avocados, too). Then, she stretches the bag over the top of a large vase. Pro tip: When you stretch the bag over the top of the vase, make sure to pull it taut; this will help provide a little more stability and structure. Lastly, she tapes the sides of the bag down to the sides of the vase.

Once the vase's new grid is set, all that's left to do is simply pop your preferred flower stems into each hole of the mesh bag, arrange them as you see fit, and voila! A beautiful, easy, at-home floral arrangement at your fingertips.

Why you should use a mesh bag

Well, for starters, upcycling something like a mesh produce bag is just good for the environment — you've taken something that had one purpose and reused it for something else entirely, saving it from a landfill. This is a simple and easy way to add more sustainability to your life.

Secondly, we all know how many tips and tricks exist for artfully arranging flowers. Everyone from Ina Garten to Joanna Gaines has a new idea for at-home flower arranging, like using smaller vases or understanding the importance of height, lines, and spacing when it comes to floral design. Some of the most common tricks we've come across are crisscrossing tape to create a tape grid or using rice at the bottom of the vase to add structure.

But, using a mesh produce bag is a sturdier option for nailing perfect floral arrangements, as demonstrated by TikToker @fivefootfeminine. It's more supportive than using a tape grid, so long as you stretch the bag tightly over the top of the vase and secure it well with tape.
