The Shower Detail That Adds Drama To A Bathroom Designed By The Property Brothers

A primary bathroom should be an oasis where you can have a calming space to get ready or relax at the end of the day. Unique features that create drama and aid in relaxation are the best ways to achieve just that. Jonathan and Drew Scott from HGTV's "Property Brothers" know the importance of having a well-designed bathroom. Not only do they cosmetically upgrade the space, but they also put in features, unlike other designs, to create a truly bespoke space.

In one of their designs, the brothers extended the shower so it expanded all the way along one of the walls, per HGTV. The extra-long shower is a feature not often seen and makes for a grand and dramatic detail. This style is called a walk-in shower, which doesn't have doors or curtains to section off the space. The walk-in shower has a floor-to-ceiling glass partition that separates it from the rest of the bathroom, mosaic tile floors, and a built-in bench under the shower head. The sleek feature truly feels like being at a spa, a little bit of daily luxury.

Walk-in showers add luxury

A large walk-in shower transforms any bathroom to feel luxurious and spa-like. As stated, walk-in showers don't have doors or curtains to separate them from the rest of the bathroom. The space is created by using glass partitions to section off it from the bathroom. Walk-in showers can have a curb or be curbless. Curbed showers have a raised barrier at the entrance, which helps to keep the water inside the shower. Meanwhile, curbless shower floors are flush with the bathroom floor and are sloped to prevent leakage.

Curbless walk-in showers are one of the best options for those with mobility issues since you simply walk right in, and there's no threshold to step over. The Property Brothers described curbless showers as "All the shower power but with nothing to trip over," per AARP. Most standard walk-in showers don't have a tub combination, so they aren't the best option for small children, for whom baths might be easier. However, some homeowners who wanted a soaking tub have opted to have a wet room, which features a bathtub in the shower area. Both styles of walk-in showers tend to be large, so allowing the shower to span the entire wall is the perfect way to make it a feature in the bathroom.

Upgrade the shower features

A large, frameless shower is a dramatic detail in itself. But with such a stylish feature, the small details also matter. Adding amenities to a large walk-in shower will make it feel even more luxurious. "I would splurge by giving a bathroom the most beautiful spa-like walk-in shower," Drew Scott told My Domaine. "Full-height glass doors, steam jets, rain head, and digital controls to regulate the temperature." These unique features instantly transform your daily shower into a trip to the spa.

Steam showers require a specialized mechanism to be installed in the wall. It's controlled by a digital panel and, once activated, adds steam to the shower stall for a steam room-like effect. Through the digital controls, you can also change the temperature settings to be most comfortable for you. Other smart shower controls can do the same for the water coming from the shower head. Some devices allow you to save presets that quickly regulate temperature with the press of a button.
