The Genius Trick That Prevents Wobbly Candlesticks
Candles are in high demand in the U.S., with $4 billion worth of candles flying off shelves in 2022 alone. However, this is no surprise. Many people use them to decorate or add a pleasant scent to their homes, and candles come available in various styles to suit your needs. In fact, there are many beautiful ways to decorate your home with candles. Whether you use them as decor or to add some ambiance to your space, though, certain candles can come with some rather pesky problems. For example, some people find that their wick doesn't burn, while others may experience a lackluster scent that doesn't quite get the job done. However, that's not all.
If you own taper candles, you may find that they can come loose and move around. This dilemma is not only potentially dangerous, but it can also create a slanted look that doesn't add much to the overall decor of your home. Thankfully, there is an easy way to fix the problem, by using wax — not melted wax, though that does work, too. Using some museum wax will help your candles stay in place.
Use some wax underneath your candles
One TikTok user, @hannah_naylor_, shows an easy way to prevent candlestick wobble from happening in a video: "We've all seen the trick where you melt the bottom of the candlestick, but have you seen the museum wax trick? Simply just putting a little mount on the bottom of each candlestick and placing it in your holder will allow for a nice, snug, and tight fit every single time." Now, your candles should stay firmly in place, providing that you don't push and prod them around repeatedly. If you feel your candle becoming loose again, remove the old wax and apply a new layer.
However, although many people may want to stop loose candles for aesthetic reasons, you should also fix them for the sake of fire safety. Any lit candle that isn't secure is a fire hazard. For this reason, it's crucial to ensure that all your candles are secure.
You can also use plastic wrap
If you don't own museum wax and don't see the need to get some just to keep your candles from wobbling, there are thankfully some other DIY tips. A YouTube video by the channel Rosset Bespoke Butlers details how you can use plastic wrap to your advantage: "Take some cling film [and] fold it up into a nice neat strip [...] and take your candle and simply roll the bottom half of the candle in the clingfilm." Once you roll the bottom of your candle in clingfilm, push it into the candle holder firmly to keep it in place. It's best to do this with candle holders that aren't glass, obviously, as you don't want your candle hack to be visible to your guests.
While this plastic wrap hack is incredibly useful, you should remember not to let your candle burn into the clingfilm. Instead, remove and replace the candle before it burns down that far.
