Here's How To Create A DIY Linen Board For Chic Kitchen Organization

According to the Product Stewardship Institute, the average person receives about 300 pieces of junk mail every year. Unless you're consistent about sorting through your stack of mail, you (like most people) probably have a pile of papers on your kitchen countertop. Of course, that's not to mention all your grocery lists, post-it notes, letters, photos, keys, and other knick-knacks.

One way to free up that much-needed counter space is to install a linen board near your drop zone, but pre-made boards can be expensive. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on a pre-fabricated linen board, TikTok creator Kylie decided to make her own from simple and affordable supplies! Under the username @kyliekatich, she posted a TikTok video detailing the process behind her DIY linen board. All she needed was a cheap corkboard, hot glue, a few tools, and a linen fabric of her choice.

Picturing the board against her cabinet, Kylie said, "It fits the space perfectly, but can we customize the entire thing for a fourth of the price of an actual linen board?" Her awesome TikTok hack shows that yes, you can! Here's how to create the DIY linen board for yourself, what Kylie's viewers are saying about the hack, and other ideas to make the board of your dreams.

Turn boring cork into beautiful linen

First, Kylie popped the corkboard out of its wooden frame and measured the board against her linen fabric, making sure that the fabric was wide enough to wrap around the board's edges. Next, she steamed the linen to remove any folds and wrinkles. To attach the linen to the corkboard, Kylie laid the board face-down on the back of the fabric, then pulled the edges around the board tightly and secured them with hot glue. Once the glue had dried, she popped the fabric-covered board back into the frame.

Of course, Kylie could have stopped there, but she had previously mentioned that she needed a place to hang her car keys. To make the linen board even more useful, she drilled two small hooks into the bottom edge of the wood frame, creating a perfect spot for keys, lanyards, or jewelry to hang. Finally, she picked out a few family photos to make the board look cuter. In another TikTok she revealed her final product, attaching the linen board to the cabinet wall with velcro Command strips. "And now all the junky things that were cluttering my kitchen look like a piece of art," she concluded.

Commenters were inspired by Kylie

The vast majority of Kylie's viewers loved her quick linen board hack, and one commenter summed it up perfectly under the final TikTok reveal: "It looks amazing and so homey!" Others admired Kylie's work but also brainstormed their own ideas and additions in the comment section. "You could try to add a small wire basket to it to fill with mail!", one TikTok commenter wrote. "I need this!!! Just have to figure out how to add magnets because I don't like pinning things," said another viewer.

But the best part about this linen board idea is that it's completely customizable! If you're planning to try the hack for yourself, consider mixing it up with different board sizes, frames, and fabric materials. Kylie used a standard small linen in her video, but for an extra bit of flair, opt for a pattern like stripes, polka dots, or tie-dye. Even a texture like velvet for corduroy could add a unique touch to an ordinary memo board. Criss-crossed ribbon would create a classic lattice effect and provide a place to tuck photos without pinning them. You can also add more hooks, attach a calculator, or even glue on a small mirror to check your hair before walking out the door!
