If you weren't already in love with Costco, it might help to know that the chain of big-box stores is committed to maintaining super-flexible policies, so it's always easy to shop with them. One of these is their return policy which allows you to bring back an item for a refund or replacement, no matter the reason. This is especially great when you need to try out some new flooring in your home.
Experts are celebrating this return policy. Interior designer Karisa Grimstad considers Costco's laminate hardwood, engineered hardwood, and vinyl flooring as "low-maintenance, low-worry, and low-cost." According to the décor expert, it's easy to snag them at a discount and even get some money back if you're a Gold Star or Business member (via BestLife). Because Costco has such a generous return policy, its flooring can be a harmless way to work within a budget, so you can cover the floor short-term or experiment with styles. H
How to return
Per the general policy, you can return items you ordered at a store or online. For in-person purchases at the warehouse, you can take your flooring and membership card — no receipts needed — to the returns counter, where the employee can process the return. Items ordered online can also be returned this way. If you received your flooring as a gift, you'd need the membership number of whoever made the purchase to process your return.
If you want to process a return on the flooring you ordered online, you can do it from your Costco account by choosing 'Orders & Returns' and the item. You can choose between scheduling your item to be picked up or receiving a free return label to mail it back yourself. There's no return window for most purchases, including flooring, so you don't have to worry about a time limit. Note, however, that custom flooring is termed a Special Order Kiosk item and is not refundable.
Other good policies to know
In addition to this great return policy, Costco is known for other key guidelines like price adjustments and extended warranties. Costco provides extended warranty services for most products for up to two years. Members only have to call Concierge Services with their receipt, membership number, and product details to access it. If you also buy an Allstate Protection Plan, you receive additional extended warranty coverage.
Price adjustments are another good policy to have in your arsenal. They are made for the difference of a price drop for an item you've already bought. This is typically within 30 days of your purchase, but you can ask if there is some flexibility. Such adjustments can only be made at the location of the original purchase and can't be done with online prices or products from other retail stores. If you're seeking a price adjustment on an online order, you'll need to fill out a request form on the customer service website.
