How To Embrace The Metallic Wall Paint Trend Just Like Chrissy Teigen

You've undoubtedly heard about adding metal hardware, lighting, or decorations to your home, and you've definitely seen focal point walls that are painted a bold color. But have you considered combining these two ideas and covering a wall with metallic paint? This is exactly what Chrissy Teigen and her husband, John Legend, did with one wall in their family home, which they posed in front of on Valentine's Day, as displayed on Instagram.

As you can imagine, adding a metallic wall creates a daring focal point. Not only are tones like gold, silver, brass, and copper bold, but the surface is also slightly reflective, which bounces light around the room and makes it appear brighter. While some may not be a fan of this look, others could find that it brings an interesting element into their modern design. Other styles that may benefit from a metallic wall include neutral minimalist, industrial, loud maximalist, and glam spaces.

Tips on adding this focal point

As you can see in the above image from Instagram, Chrissy Teigen's wall isn't just solid gold. It also has darker shades mixed in that give it an antique and textured look. If you want to create a similar appearance, use a small brush to paint organic strokes. You'll also need to add a light layer of dark brown to create the dimension showcased in her design. If desired, you could also create a similar look with another metallic color, but you may need to layer with slightly different shades of brown. For instance, if you chose copper, reddish brown may be the ideal layering hue, while silver could benefit from a cool-toned brown or black.

To create the exact same look as Teigen, you'll need to find gold paint that's truly metallic, as some 'gold' shades are simply a warm yellow. One option is Krylon's Gold Leaf Latex Metallic Paint, which can be purchased from Lowe's. Another way you could get a similar look without having to paint is by covering your wall in metallic wallpaper, which will actually have texture that you can feel.

Colors to pair with metallics

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend's room which features the metallic wall is mostly white, which obviously pairs well with the statement piece. However, there are other colors besides white that you could mix with metallic shades that may add more interest. In another Instagram post, Teigen poses on top of a golden console table positioned in front of a bright copper wallpaper. As the room's design demonstrates, pairing different metallic tones together can be a great idea.

Other options include jewel tones like emerald green or teal, which will add an expensive and extra glamorous appearance. Green shades are always a great choice because they bring in a natural vibe that will pair nicely with the metal wall. Another way to add a natural appeal is with various wood tones to make your home feel cozier. Or, if you prefer neutrals but still want to make a statement, use black, which will really pop against your metallic shade.
