20 Ways To Make Your Home Look Like A Ski Lodge

Those who have ever been skiing or snowboarding know that a ski lodge is a special place. It's the building at the bottom of the mountain where skiers gather to take breaks, eat food, and cuddle up by the fireplace. Some also have rooms where travelers can stay during their winter retreats.

While every ski lodge is different, they all have similar characteristics, and the most common theme among these buildings is comfort. Every single lodge feels cozy and warm and provides lots of space to relax. Another common theme is wood, which provides warmth and gives the space a natural feel. Similar to the cabin vibes found in mountain homes, ski lodges have some distinct characteristics. No matter where your home is located, even if it's in a warm place or not at the foot of the mountain, you can still make your space feel more like a snug retreat by implementing the following elements.

1. Ski gear

The most obvious way to make your home feel more like a lodge is by using your ski gear as prominent decorations, including skis, snowboards, helmets, and goggles, as displayed on the left of the above image. Another option is to purchase art that resembles these items.

2. Stone fireplace

A fireplace, especially one made out of rugged stone, is a staple of all ski lodges. Adding one to your home and including a wooden mantel will make it feel extra cozy.

3. Cabin walls

Another way to make your space feel more like a lodge is by using round wooden logs along the walls, giving it a cabin-like appearance. You could also use exposed wood on the mantel and staircase.

4. Warm wood walls

Here's an alternative to cabin-like walls: Instead of using round logs, utilize flat wooden panels.  To make the space cozier, you can also feature rustic wooden bookcases and furniture.

5. Ceiling beams

Bringing wood upwards in the space is also key. One way to do this is by adding wooden beams to your ceiling, which could also be an ideal place to install overhead lighting.

6. Wooden window trim

Another place you can include wood is around your windows. Instead of painting the trim white, as most people do, utilize natural wood tones to create the perfect border for the natural scene outside.

7. Large windows

Large windows are a must for making your home feel like a ski lodge. If possible, install your windows to face a beautiful view of nature.

8. Leather furniture

Leather furniture adds warmth and coziness to a space, which is essential for a cozy ski lodge vibe. Include leather armchairs, couches, or benches in your home.

9. Animal heads

It's also common for animal heads to be displayed in these spaces; if desired, you can choose sculptures that resemble these animals but are made of wood, stone, or other materials.

10. Animal rugs

Similarly, animal rugs will provide a cozy atmosphere, but they don't need to be natural, as you can choose from plenty of faux options. These rugs are great layering pieces that add texture and softness to your favorite rooms.

11. Checkered upholstery

Checkered upholstery, such as the armchairs above, will make your home feel wintry and cozy. Upholstery in solid, neutral colors will also work if you're not a fan of the checkered look.

12. Wooden accent wall

As you can gather, wood is essential in homes inspired by ski lodges. Adding wood paneling behind a prominent wall, such as the one that features your TV, will emphasize the warm look you're creating.

13. Open floor plan

Most ski lodges are pretty large and have an open floor plan. Therefore, embrace this in your own home and keep everything spacious. This will also allow you to have a double-sided fireplace, adding warmth to multiple areas of the home.

14. Wooden furniture

Many ski lodges have picnic tables made of wood where skiers can relax and eat lunch. Use wooden furniture like tables and cabinets to bring this out in your home instead of relying on an excess of synthetic materials.

15. Exposed brick

While most ski lodges look quite rustic, they may also feature industrial flourishes. One common element is the use of brick, which can be placed along a wall or fireplace. Contrast brick surfaces with wood for a natural touch and some lovely contrast.

16. Nature mural

Consider painting a nature or mountain mural on a wall to bring a touch of the outdoors inside. This can be especially helpful in rooms that don't have large windows or homes without a gorgeous natural view.

17. Neutral shades

Besides the occasional pop of color, most ski lodges feature earthy, neutral tones. Embrace this by painting your walls white, tan, or brown and highlighting wooden elements.

18. Stacked firewood

Stacked firewood can be used for more than just fires; it can also be a stunning statement piece. Stacking firewood along a wall adds interest and makes your home feel even cozier.

19. Cozy elements

Layering area rugs, using throw pillows, and placing blankets around your space will all contribute to creating a comfortable atmosphere. As the image above shows, a natural scene in your preferred art style can also go a long way.

20. Exposed wooden columns

Exposed wood columns create a warm, rustic feel and are a must-have for those seeking a ski lodge vibe. Carry the wood throughout the design by using the material on staircases, ceilings, and floors.
