The Ceiling Feature That Elevates The Look Of A Room, According To HGTV's Down Home Fab

How you choose to decorate your ceiling can either make or break the design of your home. Chelsea and Cole DeBoer, stars of the HGTV show Down Home Fab, almost always take the risk and include something daring on the fifth wall of the room.

In one episode, they covered the ceiling in a velvet skull wallpaper, which was quite controversial for viewers. While some loved the look, others thought it was too gothic or pointed out that it would be difficult to resell the home, per The U.S. Sun. Whatever your opinions about ceiling wallpaper might be, the DeBoers often feature another element on the ceiling, which is generally well-liked. This choice also fits perfectly into Chelsea's style, which she describes as "South Dakota Glam" and encompasses "cowhides, painting things black, [and] anything a little different." She continues, saying that they enjoy "showing clients how to take risks and go bold with their design," via HGTV's Facebook

Creating coziness

Many homes already incorporate this design feature, but if yours doesn't, it could easily be added: wooden beams. While this may seem like a simple addition to a home, it always makes a statement. In one Down Home Fab episode titled Cozy Sophisticated, the homeowners already had wooden beams, but they had been painted white. To make them stand out more, Chelsea DeBoer covered them with a beautiful stain.

There are two main benefits of wooden beams. First, they are very versatile. Chelsea says, "I love using beams — you can stain them all different colors, all different finishes, so it's really endless options," via Realtor. Second, they make a space feel much more cozy and homey. In the episode, Chelsea says that "The house's vibe is very cozy-sophisticated, and I think anywhere you can put beams or wood, I think that is that cozy vibe." In another episode, she paints the rest of the ceiling forest green but keeps the beams a dark wood tone, which provides a cabin-like feel, as showcased in another Realtor article. She amplifies the style by including an antler chandelier and stacked firewood.
