The Stars Of HGTV's Inside Out Have Answers To Your Burning Remodel Questions
If you're seeking to increase your home's value or simply create a better living space, you can't ever get enough home renovation advice. However, since there are so many factors to consider when approaching a new project, it can sometimes feel like an impossible task. Thankfully, these days it is easier than ever to turn to the experts for helpful tips. We're talking about Carmine Sabatella and Mike Pyle, co-hosts of "Inside Out" — no, not the famous animated Disney film.
This series follows two renovation experts with combined interior and exterior design knowledge. However, while some may balk at the idea of multitasking a home renovation project, Mike Pyle argues that improving your home's interior and exterior simultaneously can provide important advantages. "I'm a fan of tackling the inside and outside all at once," Pyle said (via HGTV). "You will typically save on costs and time."
Based on their past successful renovations, we believe they can offer helpful advice to make your project a lot smoother. Whether you're having trouble budgeting, planning, or designing, we're optimistic that Sabatella and Pyle can clear up some confusion.
Where to focus your money on
Although you may be tempted to fully renovate the exterior of your home and elevate its curb appeal, Carmine Sabatella says most of your budget should be used inside it — particularly in the kitchen, main bedroom, and bathroom. "These three rooms typically take up most of the budget, but at the end of the day, it's well worth it," Sabatella told HGTV. Trulia backs up this claim, stating that sellers with a budget and constricted deadline should focus on the kitchen and primary bath.
Buyers tend to examine these two spaces the most, and a successful kitchen renovation is especially important if you'd like to increase the value of your home. However, don't go overboard. Your remodel should primarily give these spaces a facelift with new hardware, appliances, lighting, and a coat of paint. That being said, if you plan to sell, it may be wise to avoid anything that may drive up material and labor costs, such as new cabinetry or countertops.
Elevating the exterior design
Although many people focus primarily on the inside of their residence, some homeowners don't have that luxury. So, if your home's exterior is looking out of shape, what are your best options? Mike Pyle suggests planting sustainable greenery. "Planting with drought tolerant and water-wise plant material and installing with proper spacing for future growth will limit the need for excessive maintenance or renovations short and long term," Pyle told The Oklahoman.
For example, daylilies are beautiful and bright flowers that require minimal maintenance, per HGTV. They can also endure heat, drought, and an impressive array of pests and diseases. If you're hoping to make your property look green and fresh, it's advised to plant distylium. They're also drought tolerant and are known to be able to survive in Zones 7-9. Like daylilies, this plant is also low-maintenance due to its ability to thwart harmful bugs. Additionally, many will appreciate the type of interesting texture this shrub is capable of producing.
