Target Or Walmart: Where You Can Save More On High-Quality Sheets

Shopping for bedsheets can be an overwhelming experience since each set has a different material, thread count, and price, and knowing which ones are worth your money can be difficult. According to HGTV, the best sheets are usually made of cotton, as many love this fabric's soft but breathable feel. Egyptian, Pima, and Supima are the most popular types, but they also note that other options can feel luxurious. Further, thread counts should fall between the 200 to 800 range, and typically, the higher the count, the softer the material will feel (though this isn't always the case).

We compared two options from Target and Walmart to help you decide which retailer has the better deal on quality sheets. To ensure they are high quality, we compared products that are made of cotton and have a 400 thread count. In making this decision, we compared factors like brand claims, price, and, most importantly, customer ratings.

Deals from Target

One of Target's most popular sets is the 400 Thread Count Solid Performance Sheet Set by Threshold. This product retails for $35 for a twin and $65 for a California king. The twin sports 14 color varieties, while the larger sizes offer slightly fewer. The set is made of 100% cotton, has an elastic perimeter, and should be wrinkle, pill, and shrink-resistant. With over 7,500 reviews, it has a fairly solid 3.9-star rating, and 68% of customers recommend it. However, while some said they loved the deep pockets and how the sheets washed, others complained that the fabric felt rough and could wrinkle, pill, or rip. Many recent comments also said that the quality isn't as high as it used to be.

Target also sells the 400 Thread Count Ultimate Percale Cotton Solid Sheet Set by Purity Home, which retails for $49.99 for a twin and $79.99 for a king. With 10 color options, this bedding claims to have deep pockets and soft but breathable fabric. Out of 320 reviews, this set earned 4.4 stars, but only 43% of reviewers would recommend it. Even though some praised this product for feeling soft and cooling, many of the five-star reviews were from people who were part of a promotion. Complaints included that they become wrinkled, feel rough and stiff, and arrived with a strong odor or stains.

Deals from Walmart

Retailing for $44.88 for a full and $64.88 for a king, Walmart's Better Homes & Gardens 400 Thread Count Hygro Cotton Bed Sheet Set boasts 15 color options and claims to be temperature-regulating and wrinkle-free. With over 1,000 reviews, this set received 4.6 stars. While some said that these sheets felt soft and cooling, stayed on the mattress, and washed well, many of these comments were incentivized. There were plenty of complaints about this product as well, including that it wrinkled, pilled, ripped, and felt stiff or scratchy, and some said that the quality had gone downhill in recent years.

Walmart also offers a popular four-piece set by CGK Unlimited that offers 100% cotton fabric, a 400 thread count, and seven color options. A twin costs $64.99, while a split king costs $109.99. This set should feel smooth and cooling, have deep pockets, and never rip, shrink, or pill. With over 250 reviews, it scored a perfect five-star rating. Many said it was excellent quality, stayed on the bed, and felt soft. Those who complained, however, indicated that it might shrink or wrinkle in the dryer, and the color may be slightly off.

Although it's a close call, Target offers the cheaper sheet set that can be considered high quality. However, those more focused on comfort and performance than a great deal will likely prefer Walmart's CGK Unlimted sheets, which seemed to score better reviews.
