Married To Real Estate Reveals The Kitchen Amenity That Draws In Buyers
When you're looking to sell your home, you want to make certain that your property stands out from all of the others on the market. This could mean focusing on the outdoor landscaping to beautify its curb appeal or spending time updating the rooms that really interest buyers. Remodeling your kitchen is probably the smartest way to add value to your abode. In fact, an updated kitchen ranks at the top of the list of what potential buyers are looking for in a new home, according to Fortune Builders.
With that in mind, there's a lot to be said about extra storage space. Ditching those old faux veneer cupboards and replacing them with real wooden cabinets could be just the first step towards making the heart of your home more inviting. Pull-out drawers make it easier to reach items that are otherwise inaccessible, and they add some much-needed storage to this high-traffic area. But there's another kitchen storage feature that Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson, co-hosts of the HGTV series "Married to Real Estate," say will definitely increase interest in the sale of your home. Let's take a look at what they have to offer.
A nice pantry will attract home buyers
The kitchen is responsible for storing plenty of items from pots and pans to various small appliances, and of course, food of all kinds. It can be tricky to keep this area organized and free of clutter. That's why having a separate pantry for all of your dry goods can be a welcome addition. In the premiere episode of Season 2 of "Married to Real Estate," entitled "Open to Entertaining," hosts and married couple, Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson, work with the homeowners to make the most of their property investment.
Among their many helpful tips, the hosts choose to maximize the kitchen space by adding a gorgeous and accessible pantry for extra kitchen storage. "The pantry is a big deal," Sherrod makes clear in the episode (via Realtor.com). "Every house needs additional storage. Pantries are a huge selling feature for resale, especially for large families." She adds an array of pullout shelving so that items can be stylishly organized and available at any time, plus curved corner ledges for plates and bowls. "I do believe pantries should have a personality of their own," Sherrod says, which comes through as her design brings cozy comfort to the space with floral patterned wallpaper as well as a little coffee alcove that makes the storage spot livable.
Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson have a serious love of pantries
Kitchen pantries offer you the luxury of storing your dry ingredients and even cookware so they don't clog up the cupboards. This way your items are out of the immediate area, but still conveniently within reach for when you need them. Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson have sung the praises of these culinary storage nooks on "Married to Real Estate," but this love affair can be traced back a little further.
On Season 3 of the HGTV design challenge show, "Rock the Block," Sherrod and her husband/design partner Jackson won the competition with their remarkable renovation. The home, initially valued at $500,000, was transformed into a masterpiece which later appraised for $931,000, according to HGTV. Among their show-winning tactics was the decision to add not one, but two pantries to the kitchen. Instead of simply redoing the outdated existing pantry, they made the choice to turn it into a quick and easy service space with storage. Then they took it all a step further and installed a second pantry for larger items right behind the kitchen, as per Sherrod's wrap-up on her blog. The move paid off as the couple made the most of their $225,000 renovation budget to blow away the rest of the competition and impress the judges.
