Battle Of The Bling Star Kim Myles' Budget-Friendly Tip For Making Your Space More Luxe

Renovating your home can be expensive if your heart is set on using high-end materials. For example, suppose you're upgrading your kitchen cabinets. Replacing them altogether can be expensive, but making a few changes can update their look without costing an arm and a leg. According to Jenna Sue Design Co., simply replacing hardware or painting the doors with a new color can make a world of difference. In addition, add molding to blank doors or spruce up the ends of the cabinet with shaker trim. The possibilities are nearly endless for revamping a space within a budget.

"Battle of the Bling" star Kim Myles suggests giving your space a fresh look by employing familiar design elements throughout a room. So whether you opt for gold foil, your favorite bold color, or luxurious textures, repeating a bold motif provides a cohesive feel. "It's all about repetition. If you have a simple item, a simple motif, and you repeat it over and over... you are transcending the sum of its parts," she says via HGTV. Here are a few ideas Myles gives to make your space more luxe when you're on a budget.

DCRV liner for flooring

Updating your home's flooring can be the most expensive part of a renovation, especially when using premium materials. According to Modernize, flooring installation can cost between $1,000 to $10,000 for 500 square feet, including the cost of labor and removing old flooring. However, the materials you use for your new flooring will ultimately determine how much you pay. For example, hardwood averages $6 to $20 per square foot, while vinyl ranges from $2 to $3 per square foot.

If you're attempting to keep costs down while revamping your bathroom floor, Myles says a simple way to do so is with vinyl cut into stone-like shapes and laid next to each other to create a "stone mosaic" look (via HGTV). She showcased a bathroom that uses a mix of different-colored vinyl to stunning effect and suggests cutting the vinyl into any shape that works for you and fits your space's overall theme.

Use paint and thumbtacks

Decorating an empty, mundane room can be challenging if you don't know where to start. Thankfully, creating an accent wall is an easy and affordable way to add interest and color to an all-white interior.

Myles added an accent wall to one of her client's bedrooms with a harlequin pattern (via HGTV). First, she painted an entire wall red and created a diamond pattern with masking tape. Next, Myles painted the diamond pattern with a high gloss paint, adding dimension to the wall. "The tip is basic supplies, thumbtacks, foil, wood dowels. It doesn't get simpler than that, so you're going really basic, but you're getting a lot of mileage on it," says Myles. To make the wall exciting, Myles used brass thumbtacks along the diamond outline to make it shine.

Simple materials like paint and thumbtacks are inexpensive and allow you to connect with your creative side and design something unique. For example, you can use beads, tapestries, metal, or washi tape for your flashy accent wall. Sometimes you already have small items around your house that you can use to add flair and interest to an area. If you find a design you like, replicate it and add your personal touch to it, and you'll be able to repeat the idea in different ways for other rooms.
