The Bold Bathroom Trend That Is Going Out Of Style

Bathroom designs come and go, and for one trend that's been around for several years now, it's time to move along. Yes, the all-white bathroom is one of the styles that has been on its way out for a minute and now it's going, going, gone in 2023.

Often described as clean and bright, all-white bathrooms that once felt fresh are now becoming tiresome, as mentioned by real estate agent Steve Gottlieb in a Forbes feature, noting that many homeowners are seeing the all-white bathroom now as "passé." That's not to say all-white bathrooms don't still have their share of fans, but for many interior designers and home decorators this stark color scheme is beginning to look a little bland.

If you've been enjoying an all-white bathroom but are starting to feel like you need some color in your life, there are some updates you can consider that won't cost a small fortune or require a complete remodel. And if you're contemplating an all-white redo for a small space thinking it would make it look bigger, maybe think again.

Does white really make a small bathroom feel bigger?

One of the reasons decorators went in the all-white direction in the first place was to make small spaces seem bigger. But is that really the best way to go? Not necessarily. Design professional Paige Wassel suggests the opposite can be true. Speaking to Forbes, Wassel noted that adding opulent focal-point features with more color and contrast can also work beautifully in small spaces.

Another great thing about renovating a small bathroom is that you'll need less square footage in terms of materials like countertops and tile. That offers an opportunity to splurge on luxe selections you might avoid in a larger space. You can also embrace decorating trends like the boho look by adding colorful accessories or plants to a tiny bathroom to add interest. Other items like lighting fixtures and mirrors can be replaced fairly easily to accommodate the bold look you're creating as an alternative to all-white.

Updating all-white bathrooms

When it comes to bathroom remodels, the next big thing is stone with more veining and mixing light hues with warmer tones, as noted by Steve Gottlieb (via Forbes). While you may not be ready to replace your countertops and tile, that's still good news if you have a white sink, tub, and flooring. Painting walls can totally transform your room without completely renovating the entire space again. Trends for 2023 include numerous red and pinky colors along with a host of shades derived from natural elements, ranging from soft greens to spicy browns and oranges.

Not ready to paint your bathroom just yet? That's not a problem. Consider adding new window treatments, throw rugs, and other accessories in whatever color you like best. Some of the same trending colors suggested for paint can offer up-to-the-minute style. Updating a frameless mirror with wood trim or a DIY tile border offers possibilities to get crafty while sprucing up your space. Don't be afraid to use a bold splash of color in that area, too.
