The TV Trick That's A Perfect Space-Saving Solution, According To HGTV's Property Brothers
Is your space getting smarter? Forbes predicts that nearly all homes in the future will have smart technology incorporated into them, from door locks to 3D printers and medical diagnostic systems. Technology has become extremely helpful in our day-to-day lives, but many interior designers and design-savvy folks agree: It can be kinda ugly. Big plastic devices with cords, wires, wingdings, and lights just don't fit into everyone's idea of a clean, well-styled, and comfortable environment.
TVs are one such piece of technology that have the power to ruin the aesthetic of a space. Many floorplans are designed so that everyone can sit comfortably around the TV, but when it's not in use, it can create a distracting black void. So what solutions are there? An article by Design Wanted explores some modern TV design concepts, giving us hope that future options will have sleeker frames and built-in hidability. Until then, most of us are stuck with a big black square in our living rooms. Luckily, HGTV stars Jonathan and Drew Scott, also known as the Property Brothers, have a brilliant solution that will disguise your clunky screen and give you more space in your home.
Pop-up TVs are the way to go
In an episode of HGTV's "Celebrity IOU," Jonathan and Drew Scott were given the challenge to turn a two-car garage into a luxurious guest suite with a private bath and kitchenette. As you might imagine, the close quarters of the space meant that every inch had to count, but Jonathan still felt that a TV would be important to the family's visitors "when they want to catch up on a game or unwind with a movie."
Together, the brothers came up with the perfect solution: a pop-up TV console. "Anything hidden and secret is amazing," Drew explained in the episode. "I feel like we should do the hidden lifts more often, because it's functional, great for watching TV, then tuck it away and use the countertop for whatever you want." This perfectly married functionality and simplistic design, while saving space in the process. Plus, there are hundreds of console designs out there to suit your interior aesthetic.
