Place A Bowl Of Cinnamon In Your Bathroom. Here's Why

Bathrooms — we have to live with them, and we can't really live without them. Well, we could go back to the days of outhouses, but even then, you'd probably want to have some cinnamon on hand. No matter what variety a lavatory comes in, it's often the smelliest place in a house. Even now that we have conveniences like Poopourri or other gladiators of stink, sometimes going back to the basics is just as good.

Those basics can even include common household spices like cinnamon. That's right, it isn't just the best oatmeal topping anymore! Cinnamon can make any room, even the loo, more fragrant (in a good way). There are quite a few unexpected uses for cinnamon around your home

Cinnamon works fantastically as a bathroom odor buster because it is cheap, accessible, and a non-chemical combatant. So, your powder room will be fresh-smelling without any worries about lingering chemicals. If you don't have any cinnamon on hand, it should only cost a few dollars at your local grocery store.

Why cinnamon belongs in the bathroom

Many people adore cinnamon's smell, which recalls mornings of fresh sticky buns or autumnal stovetop simmer pots. Yet, cinnamon's chemical makeup also makes it a terrific odor absorber. Because of its odor-eating capabilities, cinnamon is even used to remove wound smells. Per Medical Design and Development, cinnamon can bind "organic volatile components" and remove them from the air. That's why it works so well in a bathroom setting and keeps the air smelling fresh all day.

To work that cinnamon magic, add a few tablespoons to a bowl or a different small, breathable container. The key with your spice holder is that it needs to be open to the air so you can get a whiff of that abundant freshness. You can also add other spices into the mix, like cloves, for a fantastic fall scent if you wish. Place the container in the bathroom, out of reach of little ones, and let the scent marathon commence.

Consider putting your container near to the door since air movement is scarce in bathrooms. There isn't a set amount of time this natural deodorizer will stay potent, so once it starts to lose its scent, you should replenish the bowl. It also has antifungal properties that inhibit mold growth (per the National Library of Medicine) which makes it one of many natural ingredients that will leave your bathroom dazzling clean.

Other ways to use cinnamon in the bathroom

There are several other ways to utilize ground cinnamon or even cinnamon oil in the bathroom. For example, some folks insist that one of the best ways to combat toilet smells is to put cinnamon or other essential oils directly into the toilet. We're here to suggest you not do that. For one thing, the oil only sits in the tank for a little while before it is flushed with the rest of the water. So, you'll only be getting a small amount of benefit as you run through your oil stash.

Additionally, since cinnamon has the anti-fungal property of cinnamaldehyde, it is also good as a mold deterrent. Keep in mind that it will not be an effective fighter against active mold infestations. It will, however, help prevent it before a major outbreak in your bathroom. Plus it can fight back against stinky mildew odors which can plague bathrooms. Not only will the cinnamon leave your bathroom smelling fresh, but combating mold will also help prevent mildew from building up. That's why you should start using cinnamon in your routine for a cleaner home!
